The Best Strategy to Keep Your Nurses Happy and Thriving

Nurses work long shifts with little appreciation. Often, when their hard work is realized in a patient, they are already off duty. Designate several people to act as point people for nurses’ concerns. These leaders to review feedback and work on implementing consequential changes (whether they do it themselves or bring those concerns to the board).
  • Encourage new ideas. Let your nurses know that their ideas are wanted and important. If nurses feel that their hospital just uses them to work shifts, they will feel undervalued. Innovation begins at the source, and no one understands patient care better than nurses.   • Value collaboration. Ideally, the administration and nurses all collaborate on new initiatives, considering everyone’s feedback. Of course, this can be difficult when nurses work alternating, long shifts and will probably become annoyed with a huge meeting.
