Challenge The Status Quo

It may seem odd to quote from the late Johnny Cash, but it’s pretty damn honest and highly relatable.
Have you challenged the status quo yet? Have you asked the tough questions? We know it’s only day SIX of 2015, but we think it’s time to rock the boat a little. More and more we see companies handcuffed by delusion and fear of the unknown. And rest assured, that will absolutely affect how they interact with key relationships such as with its employees, customers and partners.
This might seem obvious, but many organizations neglect the fact that the choice to not act – to perpetuate the status quo and continue making decisions the way they currently do – is also a decision. Sometimes it’s simply a matter of an organization so enjoying their success, that they become averse to taking calculating risks.
In Sydney Finkelstein’s book Why Smart Executives Fail, he observed that the causes of failure are not because executives are unintelligent – they are typically quite smart. Finkelstein writes that the causes of failure are not necessarily due to unforeseeable events; companies that have failed often knew what was happening but chose not to do much about it. Nor are the causes of failure always errors due to taking the wrong daily actions.
We’ve talked about this before, but we wholeheartedly believe that for any company – or individual – to really sustain long-term success, you need vision and inspiration to answer, “Where do we want to go?” By communicating strategy to managers and employees, leaders can empower their work force to correctly answer, “How will we get there?” And this, reader, is at the heart of PoPin.
